The Tinderbox: the precursor of matches, a catalyst for fire and light, a box from which sparks are wont to fly….
The Tinderbox is a new organisation that houses a variable number of projects: artistic, socio-cultural, participatory, performance and dance orientated, film, or purely discursive, relating to language and the written or word.
Today’s era is defined by both ultra connectivity and paradoxically, great dissipation. The principle of The Tinderbox reflects this paradox by encompassing a number of initiatives and projects that, although very different in form, all share common aims or sources of inspiration. The Tinderbox seeks to reinforce each project’s coherence and identity whilst revealing the innate connections between them.
The Tinderbox projects are:
Sparky
Inclusive
Fun and sometimes funny
Attempt to have relevance in today’s wider society
Jump about and defy definition, as do the people that initiate, generate, organize or participate in them
The Tinderbox has been opened by Oonagh Duckworth
One time dancer, sometime journalist, producer, programmer, dramaturge and maker of performances, she has lived between London, Paris and Brussels since the age of 18.
Since the early 90s has worked for various cultural organisation such as The Place Theatre, London, Le Centre Pompidou, Paris and Les Brigittines, Brussels, whilst maintaining her independent status and operating from her own organization. Simultaneously, she has run and toured the Bal Moderne, the now vintage participatory dance project and has, together with the Bal Moderne team, refashioned the initiative into several new formats whilst keeping the same weather eye on artistic quality. More recently she has been busy setting up arts projects in public spaces and directing theatre productions.
The Tinderbox is a new generic name for a custom made nomadic home for her continued activities. It also intends to be a display case for those initiatives or organisations and their teams with which she is associated: in short a magic box from which an undetermined number of surprises can be conjured !!!
